Hyperlink Moderation (Entry #0)

Hyperlinking is a key feature when it comes to making an online blog. Especially if its to promote or

compare consumer products that are yet to release. Giving in depth information is a great way to keep

readers well informed and up to date. This is where The Verge blogs thrive and blogs made by

Highsnobiety flops.

In Sean Hollister’s, who writes for The Verge, blog about “what PC handhelds makers should do about competing with the Switch 2” greatly takes advantage of hyperlinking. Sean mainly uses this feature to keep reader informed about the different PC handhelds in the market, when citing statements, and the up coming Switch 2. Allowing readers to stay informed and read more about the products that he is talking about. This also keeps his audience engaged with the article and allows for more click through rates for The Verge’s website.

One the other hand, Highsnobiety’s blogs lack in the use of hyperlinking and makes them fall short. This is better represented in “_J.L-A.L_’s Highly Techy Menswear…(Exclusive)” blog written by Morgan Smith. The blog talked about the difficulties for producing the clothing that would be included in _J.L-A.L_’s collection. Using vague quotes from the interview and giving much context to then. The lack of hyperlinking make it hard to understand what products they were writing about. Leading to the blog being less engaging when having to read how the products made and process they went through to get them into production.

Though, the over use of hyperlinks can also ruin the engagement the main blog and do more harm than good. Having to many hyperlinks could lead to reader getting distracted and trail them off into a rabbit hole of blogs. The over use of hyperlinks could overwhelm audiences and may even click off the site entirely.

When it comes to making blogs about consumer products, one should be ready to give in depth knowledge of said product. The use of hyperlinks can greatly help with keeping readers engaged and informed with the subject. This feature however, should not be overused or underused as to not overwhelm and distract reader from the main topic. Finding a middle ground is something bloggers should strive for.
